One of the most successful chief executives in the fiercely competitive e-commerce arena, Dan Schulman brings experience culled from a long career of organizing, focusing and growing business to his post as President and CEO of PayPal, where he is leading the company into its next phase as an independent business.

Prior to joining PayPal, Dan spearheaded growth and innovation at some of the world’s largest companies, including Priceline, AT&T, Virgin Mobile, and American Express. During his time at Priceline, as President and CEO, Shulman led the company through a period of rapid expansion, nearly tripling the company’s revenues in one year and growing its customer base from 2 million to 5.3 million users. As the founding CEO of Virgin Mobile, he was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst and Young and one of the hundred most creative people in the business by Fast Company.

PayPal—also the parent company to the popular money-sharing app Venmo—is a member of the S&P 100, with annual revenues of over $9 billion and 17,000 employees worldwide. As a pioneer in Financial Technology (today known as “Fintech”) and mobile technology, Dan leads PayPal by exploring unique growth opportunities that offer a superior user experience and value in their mobile and e-commerce operations.Dan previously served as Group President of Enterprise Growth at American Express, where he led global strategy to expand the company’s alternative mobile and online payment services. Under his leadership, American Express successfully launched its one of the first digital payments platform, developed non-traditional sources of revenue, and introduced a suite of payment products that expanded the company’s demographic and geographic reach.

Prior to joining American Express, Dan was President of the Prepaid Group at Sprint Nextel Corporation, following its acquisition of Virgin Mobile USA, Inc., where he led the company as its founding CEO. During his eight years at Virgin Mobile USA, he developed the company from its earliest stages as one of the first U.S. prepaid cell phone providers to a dynamic public company, when it was eventually acquired by Sprint Nextel for $688 million.

Dan earned a Bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College and a Master of Business from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business. In his commitment to help those in need, Dan is a board member of Autism Speaks. He also serves on the boards of Flextronics, International Ltd. and Symantec Corporation, where he is the Non-Executive Chairman of the Board.
